Why “Interwoven”?

The name “Interwoven” carries personal meaning. As a writer, artist, and weaver, creativity has always been part of how I understand and move through the world.

I earned my BA in Graphic Design & Creative Writing before beginning my professional career as a designer in the NYC publishing industry. I saw book design as a way to integrate my love for writing and the visual arts. I left the design world to pursue my MA in Art + Design Education at RISD, where I explored the role nonprofits play in delivering arts-based learning within our public education system. From there, I moved to Long Beach, California, to accept the role of Arts Education Director at Angels Gate Cultural Center, where I developed youth programs and secured grant funding to grow those initiatives. In 2022, I transitioned to full-time nonprofit grant development, managing robust grant portfolios while consulting for nonprofits across California.

The arts have remained a critical part of my identity. Throughout my life, I have explored countless art forms, but weaving has become my passion. Not long into my practice, my weaving teacher told me, “There are two kinds of weavers: color/texture weavers and structure/pattern weavers.” For me, weaving is about pattern, structure, and the ways individual threads become stronger when woven together.

When I was thinking of a business name, it felt natural to look at my arts practice for inspiration. I think a lot about how nonprofits are woven into their communities. And how internally, each part of a nonprofit strengthens the other; programs cannot exist without strong operations, finance, and leadership.

Similarly, the best nonprofit fundraising strategies aren't built on grants alone. Institutional fundraising is strongest when mission, storytelling, relationships, and systems support each other—when all the pieces are deeply connected, like interwoven threads.
